We are immensely grateful for the support we receive from organisations, the community and our many volunteers. From individuals who travel across the globe to spend time with our children, to corporations who donate essential supplies and financial assistance, your support is vital in helping us to fulfil our mission.
The Makimei Children’s home has been blessed with the longterm support of many individuals and organisations. We would like to thank the following angels for their continuing gifts of compassion and patronage.
The Loxton family from the UK created The Friends of Makimei Children’s Home Charity on our behalf. They help our home by paying wages for three house mothers and supporting many other needs.
The Switzerland Matumaini group has been a continual source of support – financing household helpers and assisting with primary school fees.
Makimei Friends Nordic was started by a small group of volunteers from Sweden and Norway who visited Makimei. They subsequently formed a non-profit association for fundraising which contributes to daily operations as well as sponsoring 13 students with their high school fees.
Swedish based SAS U-assist pay the nurse’s salary in our infant room.
Lotta Säfström was a great pillar of strength and a founding member of Makimei Friends Nordic. We shared so much through the years and benefited greatly from her wisdom. She is gone but never far from our hearts. We are forever thankful. Rest in eternal peace Mrs Lotta Säfström
The Makimei Children’s home is fortunate to have the support of many local and national businesses. Here’s a small selection of organisations who have contributed to our essential work in Nairobi. Thank you!

What an amazing experience. Mama Margaret, Rachael, John and all the staff are united as a family to raise these children, who have so much joy and love to share. As a former teacher I appreciate how important it is for children to feel safe so they can then explore and learn. Makimei truly is a home. My time flew by and a big piece of my heart stayed behind.

Volunteering at Makimei Children’s Home was a life changing experience. Family-run and filled with love, the home provides a future for Nairobi‘s most deserving and underserved children. Many of these babies and children have experienced unimaginable trauma, and the Makimei’s dedication to their life-saving mission is truly inspiring. It was such a privilege to be able to spend time with this amazing group of children.

This was my first volunteering experience, and I couldn’t have come to a better place. The children are wonderful, smart, little human beings who make the time go by incredibly fast. I am beyond grateful to have met the founders, who welcomed me with an open heart and made me feel part of their home. I will never forget the genuine smiles of the children and hope to return soon.
We are grateful to volunteer Lara Tonidandel for providing many of the photographs used on our website.
